Investing.com — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has concluded its investigation into General Motors (NYSE:GM)’ autonomous vehicle unit, Cruise.

The probe, initiated in October 2023, was focused on whether Cruise’s robotaxis were taking adequate measures to protect pedestrians.

The NHTSA had been examining five incidents involving a collision between a Cruise vehicle and a pedestrian. In each of these incidents, the Cruise vehicle was unable to successfully avoid the collision.

The decision to end the investigation came after Cruise’s recall in November 2023 to address safety concerns. Additionally, General Motors’ decision to halt Cruise’s business operations played a role in the conclusion of the probe.

The NHTSA has noted that as a result of these actions, no Cruise self-driving vehicles are currently operating on public roads.
